New Taste of Healthy: Ginger Watermelon Detox Smoothie
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been writing watermelon detox juice drink recipes that while they are out of the ordinary and healthy, they are easy to the eyes and taste buds – not like other smoothies that look otherworldly and yet still healthy. I can’t speak for most but I have tasted a few and their taste is rather tolerable.
I want to go out of my comfort zone a bit and make a recipe that’s a little far from what we used to have here. A smoothie catered for the extra health conscious. I thought of making Ginger Watermelon Detox Smoothie. I included a light version so the general audience can enjoy this as well. Here is the recipe:
- 2 cups seeded watermelon flesh
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger
- Juice from ½ lemon juice
- ½ cup frozen blueberries
- A dash of sea salt
- 4-8 ice cubes
Add-ons for the hardcore detox fanatics:
- Juice from ½ lemon
- ½ cup frozen raspberries
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric
- 1 cup spinach or kale
Put all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blitz for 30-45 seconds, or until you reach your desired consistency.
Nothing compares to watermelon to relieve the heat on a hot day, which is the main ingredient of this drink. Watermelon juice is a great body detoxifier and particularly effective in cleansing the liver and kidneys for it has citrulline. Flushing out the toxins currently present in these organs frees them up to prevent them from building up in the future. This wonder fruit is rich in lycopene, which is known to improve heart and bone health and prevent various types of cancer, and as an antioxidant, it helps keep the skin youthful and healthy as well. For hardcore watermelon and detox fans, there is 3-day watermelon detox diets that you can try.
Then we have the ginger, well known to keep the digestive system healthy. This root crop is also good for flushing out toxins. Lemon, just like watermelon helps cleanse the liver and is a great source of vitamin C which boosts the immune system. Frozen blueberries are added in the smoothie for all of its nutritional value. Lastly, the sea salt is for some added minerals.
This smoothie (without the add-ons) is great for those who are starting out with the detox diet on a daily basis. For those who are already into the light detox diet testing the one with add-ons is a step towards taking their detox diet on another level. The taste of the latter isn’t overwhelming and still tastes fruity overall, it’s all about the nutritional value anyway. You may also try incorporating other tropical fruits in the smoothie or add yogurt or avocado to thicken the mixture a little more.
There you have it! A smoothie that’s extra healthy to help you endure heat and will give you the energy and nutrition you need.
