The roots of Tsamma® (pronounced SAH-MAH) begin with Sarah Frey. Raised on a small, 100-acre farm in Southern Illinois, at age eight, Sarah and her mother would buy watermelons from local farmers and go store-to-store, making deliveries. By age 16, Sarah bought a truck and took over the distribution. At 18 years old, she bought the family business. Sarah’s brothers returned home to work with their younger sister, where they remain today.
Frey Farms is known for their massive pumpkin operation along with watermelons, cantaloupe, sweet corn, hard winter squash and fall ornamentals. Sarah was inspired to produce a delicious juice out of the “imperfect” watermelons that weren’t being sold on the produce side. Tsamma® is named after a hardy melon grown in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa. As a delicious all-natural watermelon hydration drink, it is also the first and only bottled 100% watermelon juice produced in the U.S. Each bottle of Tsamma® is made on our farms with over 1-1/2 pounds of Frey Farms watermelon, hand-cut and cold pressed shortly after harvest to ensure a high quality, delicious juice that is minimally processed to preserve nutrients.
